Good morning, sunshine.
It’s 4:57 AM as I sit down to write this. I just finished another 30/10 round and figured now’s a perfect time to break it down for you. And maybe, just maybe, I’ve already written about this before. But if I have? Lucky you. You’re getting the remix, because I’m fired up this morning. Inspired. Flowing.
Yesterday, I wrote seven short scripts and a shit ton of other creative madness. So yeah, I’m feeling good. And when I’m feeling good, I share.
So, what’s 30 on, 10 off?
It’s a productivity method I use to keep myself focused, especially with my ADHD brain that loves to wander. And trust me, it wanders. But this system brings me back every time.
Here’s how it works:
- Set a timer for 30 minutes.
- Pick one thing to work on. Go all in. No distractions, no multitasking, just that one thing.
- When the timer goes off, stop.
- Then set a new timer for 10 minutes and do whatever you want, scroll, stretch, lay down, make a smoothie, stare at the wall. Just don’t keep working on what you were doing.
- Once the 10 minutes are up, you’re back in. Set the 30 minute timer again and repeat.
I usually go through 3 to 5 cycles depending on the day or project. And yes, you can tweak it to fit your own rhythm, 100 on, 30 off is a solid long haul stretch if you’re locked in, but I’d say that’s the upper limit. Don’t overdo it and burn out. This method works because it creates momentum without overwhelming your brain. You’re giving yourself permission to focus and to rest. That balance? That’s the magic.
Try it out. Seriously. And if it works, let me know. If it doesn’t, still let me know, I’m always down to hear how people tweak things to fit their own flow.
Stay inspired,
B
