It’s 12:57 AM. The world is quiet. The kind of quiet that makes you question if time even exists. The stars aren’t out tonight like they usually are, but the crickets, the crickets are on beat as always.
I’m sitting here wondering if I should head to HQ to knock out these edits and get a head start on the day. Part of me says, “Nah, just rest.” Another part? “Go feed the thing.”
Honestly, I don’t know how I keep doing it some days.
Maybe because the days keep coming regardless. The deadlines, the ideas, the pressure, the peace, all of it shows up whether I’m ready or not. I haven’t figured it out yet, but I do know one thing: I have to keep going.
There’s something beautiful about these late night open thoughts. They don’t ask for much, just your presence. Just enough space to let an idea unravel. Writing reminds me of how I used to draw. I never really knew what I was making until I was done. I’ve always loved that about myself. That mystery, that freedom to explore without the need for control. It leaves room for imagination, creativity… flow.
And what a blessing it is that we each have our own.
Anyway, where was I?
Ah yes… feed it.
Feed it so it becomes.
Now I know that sounds like some mystical advice passed down by a monk with a flip phone, but stay with me. I’m talking about the digital you.
We’re living in the interwebs now. Yeah, I said “interwebs” sue me, I was born in the nineteen hundreds. But seriously, the online space is what we have to feed if we want anything we’re doing to have weight beyond our circle.
“Feed it what?” you ask.
Feed it you. Your ideas. Your work. Your thoughts. Your proof.
If you want to be known for something, if you want to build a brand, a business, a following, a legacy, people have to know. And not just in theory, or by word of mouth. They need to see it. Hear it. Read it. Click it. Tap it.
Because the truth is, if you’re not feeding the web who you are and what you do, someone else will fill in the gaps… or worse, no one will know you exist.
That’s where you come in.
We hear acronyms all the time, SEO this, PR that, but what does it all mean at its core? To me, SEO, Search Engine Optimization, is really about making it easy for people (and search engines) to find you “I go into depth here”. Not just a website, but your presence. And the good news is, you don’t need to hire someone right away to get started.
You just need to start feeding it.
Here are a few simple ways to start organically:
- Write a blog (yes, even if no one reads it yet).
- Post your process, not just your product.
- Add your name and business to free directories.
- Make sure your social bios are clear and connected.
- Get a basic website (even if you’re still figuring it out).
Even if you’re not using your site to sell a product or service right away, have it. It’s your digital foundation. Your online headquarters. Because how can anyone find you if you’ve left no trail to follow?
And I know, it can be overwhelming. Especially when it feels like no one’s watching. But they will. Eventually. And when they do, they need somewhere to land. Something to see.
This is where your journey turns into infrastructure. And hopefully one day, this is where your team steps in too. But until then, it’s on you to show up. Consistently, imperfectly, and intentionally.
We often hear about (PR) Public Relations, but that’s another blog for another day. Right now, I’m talking about Personal Responsibility. The responsibility to define yourself before someone else does, or doesn’t.
To sum it up:
What you put out is what you get back. That’s true in life, and it’s definitely true online. If you want to be seen, heard, respected, or even Googled, you have to give people something to work with.
Because let’s be honest, if it’s not documented, did it really happen?
Feed it. Feed it until it becomes.
Hope this helps, I’m gonna head in.
