What Equipment and Software Will You Need?

To get the most out of Film Club and participate fully in our hands-on projects, having a few key tools at your disposal will be helpful. Here are our recommendations:

Basic Equipment:

  1. Camera:
    • Smartphone: Your phone’s camera is more powerful than you might think! Most modern smartphones shoot high-quality video, making them a great tool for beginner filmmakers.
    • DSLR or Mirrorless Camera (Optional): For those wanting more control over their shots, cameras like the Canon EOS Rebel T7i or Sony Alpha a6400 offer excellent quality without breaking the bank.
  1. Tripod:
    • A tripod will help you keep your shots steady. Affordable options like the Manfrotto Compact Tripod or even smartphone tripods work well for most projects.
  1. Microphone:
    • Sound quality is just as important as video quality! A simple lavalier microphone (like the Rode SmartLav+) or an external mic (such as the Rode VideoMic) can dramatically improve your audio.
