Let that sink in for a second. Because I mean it exactly how it sounds.
This thought hit me while watching how the world keeps spinning in its strange direction, how the ones we put in power seem to rewrite the rules whenever it suits them. It’s wild, isn’t it? The highest office in the land is supposed to represent integrity, leadership, and structure, yet time after time, we see the same thing: people blindly following authority, even when that authority has lost its moral compass.
It makes me wonder if we ever truly learned how to think for ourselves.
See, everything we live by…every law, every rule, every policy, was written by humans. Imperfect humans. And yet we act like these papers, these systems, are sacred scripture that can never be questioned. Even when they no longer make sense. Even when they hurt us. We’ll obey them because we were taught to respect authority, no matter how flawed that authority might be.
That never sat right with me.
My logical brain just can’t comprehend that…how we can see something wrong, know it’s wrong, and still submit because it came from someone in power. We’ll honor the authority before honoring what’s human.
And that’s where we lose ourselves.
If you really praised God, or the universe, or whatever higher power gives you hope… you’d recognize that moral truth isn’t found in titles or documents. It’s in how we treat each other. It’s in how we show up when no one’s watching. But somewhere along the way, people started worshiping hierarchy. They started worshiping the “rules” instead of the reason behind them.
We’ve become a society that would rather be obedient than aware.
We’ll accept the phrase “it is what it is” as if that excuses injustice. We’ll say “it’s always been that way” as if that’s an explanation instead of an excuse. We’ll march, post, and talk while everything around us quietly shifts… not in our favor, but we stay calm because authority told us to.
And that’s the scary part.
Because when authority becomes your god, you stop thinking. You stop questioning. You stop feeling.
The truth is, everything we live by is made up. None of this… the systems, the structures, the titles, is actually real in a natural sense. It’s all human creation, written on paper and agreed upon by other humans. Yet, if you question it, you’re labeled crazy. You’re called rebellious, delusional, or “too deep.” But maybe that’s exactly what the world needs, a few more people willing to sound crazy enough to care.
If you step outside the illusion for a second, you’ll notice how backwards things are. We have people starving on our own soil while we send billions overseas. We have citizens fighting to afford basic needs while our leaders argue over who gets the credit. We’re told to be proud, to stand tall, to trust the system…but the system doesn’t trust us.
And we accept it. Because authority said so.
I’m not here preaching. I’m not the most spiritual person in the world. But even from where I stand… it’s clear that something’s off. I don’t believe that true faith, in whatever form it takes, would allow blind obedience to corruption. I don’t believe that honoring humanity means turning a blind eye to suffering.
So no…I don’t think most people praise God. I think they praise control.
And maybe it’s time we unlearn that. Maybe it’s time we stop worshiping authority and start living by truth. Because if we can’t question the things that don’t make sense, if we can’t fix what humans broke…then what are we really doing here?
The moment we realize that every “rule” we live by is just a collective agreement, we also realize we have the power to change it.
That’s where real praise begins… not in submission, but in awareness. Not in obedience, but in understanding.
So I’ll say it again:
“Some of you don’t praise God…you praise authority”
And until that changes, the world won’t either.
Hope this helps,
-B
