Some will say that question reveals more about you than you realize. I tend to play devil’s advocate, but before I go off on a tangent, let’s pause and agree on definitions so we are on the same page before I segue into a metaphor.
Per Webster:
al·go·rithm
noun
A process or set of rules to be followed in calculations or other problem-solving operations, especially by a computer. Example: a basic algorithm for division.
I will be honest. I knew the meaning, but I did not expect this definition to land the way it did at 1:11 a.m. while writing this blog. Instead of skimming past it, I felt a strange excitement because it perfectly frames what I am trying to say.
So before my ADHD kicks in full force, let me try to make my point, explain it clearly, and circle back to icing the cake.
“A basic algorithm for division.”
That alone almost says everything. But stopping there would be too easy, because my thoughts run deeper. They run into frustration. They run into concern. They run into the uncomfortable realization that we, as humans, are becoming increasingly controlled, unconscious, and unsure of ourselves. If I were a betting person, I would put twenty dollars on the cause being your algorithm.
Yes, your algorithm. The invisible system shaping what you see, what you think, and eventually who you become. It helps mold the final form of the sheep. It keeps you confused, uncertain, and detached from reality while handing you trendy buzzwords so you can describe confusion that you do not even realize was engineered.
Even writing that sounds confusing. But like any blog, if you are with me, you are with me. If not, start from the top and try again. Because in 2026 and beyond, I will not hold hands, bite my tongue, or soften necessary truths for fellow humans who continue to choose the digital ecosystem over real life.
I am seeing too much lately. Far more than ever before. Once again, I feel like the person shouting that the sky is falling while watching it collapse exactly as predicted years ago. The phone replacing the TV. Mental health crises becoming normalized. Everyone turning into a brand. Every interaction becoming performance based.
Now that these things are openly discussed, it does not bring relief. Being right does not feel good anymore. In fact, it feels terrifying. I am drifting, knee deep in a blog that might already be too far gone for some readers. But let me continue.
The second definition reads:
The algorithm. A data-tracking system in which an individual’s internet search history and browsing habits are used to present similar or related material on social media or other platforms.
This is the definition most people recognize. It is common. And honestly, it is not inherently bad. Unless you are someone cursed and gifted with pattern recognition. Then you start to see the damage the algorithm has done to humans, to language, to culture, and to the world around us.
Remember the phrase from earlier?
“A basic algorithm for division.”
Division. Separation. Sorting. Fragmentation.
I love technology. I truly do. I see the good, the bad, and the ugly. What I value most is knowing when enough is enough. Knowing when assistance becomes influence.
Knowing when convenience becomes control.
Sidebar. My world can be lonely. When you can see the flaws in any system you pay attention to, connection becomes harder. As a kid, I thought it was cool. Now, I sometimes wonder what it would be like to be neurotypical. To follow without questioning. To copy and paste without resistance. This is not an insult. It is genuine confusion. I struggle to understand how easily we hand over power and permission simply because “they” said so.
Look at the world now. Look at what it has always been. The things I have learned, the things I am learning, the things I am witnessing feel like history we were never taught. Only now it is amplified, accelerated, and accessible to everyone. We are desensitized, and that hurts to witness.
Everyone is performing in the digital space, and lately I cannot bring myself to log on and participate to save my life.
So how did we get here?
I guess it was the algorithm.
As I land this plane, I will say this. The human race has been divided longer than any of us have been alive. And it feels like we all sense that this era is reaching its limit. I will hold your hand for this part.
It will take real unity. Not hashtags. Not aesthetics. Not trending outrage. Action.
We love freedom. We love family. We love hard work. We love creativity, exploration, joy, friendship, and a life that actually feels lived. There is enough for all of us.
Now it is our choice. We get to decide what history we create. We get to decide what future we and our children will be proud to read about.
Put the phones down. Talk.
Hope this helps,
– B
