Before you answer, read my thoughts first, and I’d honestly love it if you shared your answer with me via DM.
If you’ve been reading my blog for a while, you probably know two things by now: I love to talk, and with that, I love to write. Or, if you’re new here, you might just think all my posts sound like conversations with a slightly unhinged friend who refuses to use a period. Either way, you’re right. I write like I talk because somewhere along the line, people stopped thinking for themselves. Everyone’s repeating someone else’s quote, pretending it’s wisdom, while real thoughts get lost in the scroll.
Well, news flash…I may look young as you, but I’ve been writing since my hands could form words I couldn’t spell. That didn’t stop me, though. In fact, it’s probably where my love for tech came from. Good ol’ autocorrect, my day one.
Now, let me be real with you, I’ve never been a great speller. Numbers? I can count, multiply, divide, even hustle them. But words? They had me in a chokehold. Still, I was determined to get better with every poem, every story, every late night rant that turned into something beautiful by accident. And look, even now, there are still hiccups, but that’s where tools come in. Grammarly, autocorrect, practice, and a good cup of coffee…they all deserve their credit.
That was a random story inside a random entry, but that’s kind of how this whole thing works. I press record and end up with gold. I write and somehow do the same.
There was no deep reason behind this post. I just had a thought at 12:40 a.m. “What’s one thing you’d tell yourself, yesterday?” and boom, here we are. It sparked a whole Monday blog. And yes, if you’re reading this, it’s Monday. Saturday and Sunday’s posts were already written and scheduled, so technically I’m ahead for once. Look at me being organized. Honestly, I think this one’s a nice follow up to yesterday’s post. One I hope didn’t go over your head, because sometimes I drop gems and y’all treat them like pebbles.
So, back to the question. If I was to answer it right now, it would technically be me answering from the present about the past for the sake of the future…which already sounds confusing, so I’ll just say this: I’d tell myself to take a moment to reset at 7 p.m. tonight. Just stop, breathe, and recharge for the week ahead.
Then again, Sunday hasn’t happened yet, so maybe I’ll tell myself to chill out and stop overthinking.
There’s a quote I love…I might butcher it, but it goes something like this: If you’re thinking about the past, you’re depressed. If you’re thinking about the future, you’re anxious. Be present.
That right there is the full circle moment I needed.
Okay Brandon, make it a full circle read.
You got it, Justin. (Wow, it’s been a minute since I’ve referred to myself in third person. Some of y’all probably think I’m insane by now…but let’s be real, aren’t we all a little bit?)
No? Just me?
…Awkward.
Anyway, what’s one thing you’d tell yourself, yesterday? I ask because I want you to actually reflect for a second. It’s not a trick question, and it’s not that deep, unless you make it deep. But it’s something you should practice often. Reflection keeps you grounded. It gives you direction without needing a GPS.
Because here’s what I’ve learned: discipline and routine are the real answers to most of the questions you keep asking.
“How do I stay consistent?”
Discipline.
“How do I make progress?”
Routine.
“How do I get out of my own way?”
Both.
Don’t ask me how I know. I just know.
So, before you scroll to the next thing, take ten seconds to answer it in your head…or better yet, message me your answer. I actually read them. Maybe it’ll spark your next great thought. Maybe it’ll help you see where you’ve been slipping. Or maybe it’ll just remind you to breathe.
Either way, it’s a start.
So, what’s one thing you’d tell yourself, yesterday?
Go ahead. I’m listening.
Hope this helps,
-B
